Build a DUAL Coat Hanger HDTV Antenna (Weather proof)

OK, the results from the HDTV Coat Hanger Antenna build were so staggering I decided to redouble my efforts! I doubled up the elements to 8 bay and added some chicken wire to catch any stray signals and bounce them into the back of the antenna. This part REALLY worked well. I was using a different Digital convertor box so all signals were down slightly. Once tower mounted I was getting all digital channels available here in the metro area, total cost of this double "Coat Hanger" antenna was around $5 thats for two Transformers (balum) at $2 each. All other materials were free. The wire I used this time was galvanized fence wire, I spotted it at a locally where it was all twisted up and if the truth be told was a hazard to people and wild life. I seen a male deer when I was recycleing it! So removing it from the enviroment and reuseing it was a win win situation! The signals seemed to be just slightly better than the Single Coat Hanger antenna above but when the reflector was added I really seen the signal JUMP! Fun stuff, great way to pass a Sunday while taking in the Twins Game! The mesh does not touch anything, it's simply nailed to wood behind the elemants, around 2" away. The cables come together with a simple cable splitter in reverse. An Amp may well help but will but I had no need, as I am getting everything I can here in the metro area. The dish did not really help as it was so low to the ground but will work just as good as mesh, but with antenna its all about ...

Make a Coat Hanger HDTV Antenna (Weather proof)

A Coat Hanger HDTV Antenna? OK I watched the below YouTube video and read the below claim............... "Cheaply, easily an quickly build an HDTV antenna that outperforms amplified store bought antennas made with a few coat hangers and a Balun (also called a UHF/VHF transformer costing around $1.50)" www.youtube.com So I decided to give it a go, took about an hour to complete (While watching baseball in HD, FTA) and the results were nothing less than staggering. I am now pulling in channels from St Cloud that I really should not be able to from the opposite end of the Twin Cities metro area (From inside the house). When I was done I gave it the obligatory PSB coat of flat matt black paint. Pointing the antenna is easy after consulting antennaweb.org Not bad for my first try, now to go bigger and maybe add a Satellite dish for directional signals! www.youtube.com Here is the thread on this subject in the DIY area of the MIGHTY! Homade HDTV antenna

My Father and i attempted to make a hdtv antenna. Our first try was by using Coat hangers and a 75ohm transformer.....It work ight.... Then we decided that we want to try and get better outcomes... So we stepped it up a notch with Using a wider board and Number Six Bare Copper And the same 75ohm transformer..{radio shack carries them] In the Video we got results of 14 channels or so Now we are able to pull in a good 17 to 25 digital depending on the weather and time of the day..... One thing that we failed to do was use high quality cables...if you use good cable and have one rusty conector in the setup it will result in a bottleneck in your sys....Your sys can only preform as good as One whole sys and a bottleneck part will hinder the proformance of the rest... On Feb 17-09 All analog station are going to stop and either be digital or die.... Digital Freq will then be at full broadcasting power with out analog in the way.. Digital tv has many reason why it is replacing Analog. Dtv can have built in guides to see schelude events.... The Resolution is way better [hdtv] The Color is better The audio is better-Our antenna can pull in 5.1 surrond sound. Subscribe if you like homade free hdtv.....LOL
