Canon Vixia HF S100 Camcorder | Cen Matrix TR Arena Truggy

My first shoot of my RC truggy with my Canon Vixia HF S100. Having said that, this post is more about the camera than the truck. The camera settings are 60i and MXP. I used the included software, Pixela, to transfer the video to my PC. I could be wrong, but it appears to be the only way to xfer the video. I used a trial version of Corel Video Studio 12 to edit. I'm not sold on Corel b/c it doesn't have the "slow mo" feature I need to film my truck. Adobe Premiere Elements 8 has "slow mo" and appears to be superior in other areas as well, so I'm going with Adobe. While editing the video, the playback was not fluid. It stuttered. When editing, I use the pause button and the editing wheel to advance, view and cut, so playback isn't really an issue for me. However, I'm still trying to figure something out. Some are throwing hardware at the problem with super computers. As a much cheaper alternative, others are using HD to MPEG2 converters. I downloaded a converter, but it didn't work. For the moment, I can't remember why. Again, no biggie, since I use the wheel for playback while editing. I rendered using "HDV 1080i 60i for PC" as my format. I used that setting by default b/c the higher or different setting, once saved as a file would cause IE & windows errors. I googled the issue, installed a Divx fix & deleted the problem file. The file size is 1.1 GB's & took 6 & 1/2 hours to upload. I uploaded at 1920 x 1080i. YouTube currently limits @ 1280 x 720. I'll upload at the ...

Mt. Lebanon 30th High School Reunion Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This is a commemorative video of Mt. Lebanon's 30th High School Reunion of the class of 1978. This event took place at PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Our reunion also occurred on the same night of the 250th birthday celebration of the city of Pittsburgh, and we found ourselves right in the middle of one of the largest fireworks displays in the history of the United States. In fact, the display set a world record for the highest number of discrete launching sites. The video was shot on my recently purchased Canon Vixia HV30 HD camcorder. I have been very happy with the performance of this unit. My decision to stick with a tape-based camcorder (Mini-DV) rather than purchasing the newer generation of solid state memory (HDD, Flash, etc) camcorders revolved around my concerns for quality over convenience. This camcorder uses the HDV compression scheme which is a tried and true, mature codec, that has a solid reputation for high quality recordings with minimal compression artifacts. The downside to this approach is these camcorders have a maximum resolution of 1440x1080 (using rectangular pixels) versus the true HD spec of 1920x1080. The solid state camcorders do achieve the full 1920x1080, but to achieve that, they are using a newer, more aggressive compression scheme called AVCHD. This codec has proven less than stellar, and many reports abound regarding some problems with quality, especially surrounding motion artifacts. So the trade off here is slightly lower ...

How I Record My LP's (Part 1 of 2)

This is how I record my LP's. Yep. I also go into quite a bit about editing the videos/sound in Movie Maker, but even then I didn't cover everything. This is an unusual way to record, and I can't promise that it would work on just any computer, since the files come out to be pretty enormous in size. Plus, RecordPad is not free, although it does offer a 2-week trial period if you want to try it. You can get it here: www.nch.com.au I had a little de-sync'ing issue, it starts about five minutes in, but it doesn't get progressively worse; it's just off by about a second. Just thought I should warn you. It's still easy enough to follow what I'm doing, I just hope I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence here. I'm a complete dummy when it comes to computers. But you never know how much people know about things, so I just kind of assume the worst and go from there. A couple of the important things I forgot to mention was that when recording an NES game with FCEU Ultra, it's pretty much exactly the same as recording with Snes9x, just drag File to Record AVI and you're golden. The only difference is that on NES games, you can actually hear the sound as you're recording. One other thing is that in Movie Maker, I often have to lower the sound of the video game to about half or 1/4 of its original volume, since the voice recording is barely audible next to it otherwise. To change the volume of the video, click on the video and drag "Clip" to "Audio" to "Volume" and you can lower it there.
